Ela Mergels, 1969 in Deutschland geboren, lebt und arbeitet in Köln. Die Kuenstlerin und Designerin studierte in Dortmund und Rotterdam Fotografie und Film. Sie arbeitet in diversen Designkooperationen, u.a. dem cultureclubcologne und dem Designinstitut. Neben Musiker- und Schauspielerportraits (Fehlfarben, Amp Fiddler, Coco Rosie, Kaiserchiefs, Benno Fuermann, Lutz Huelle...) u.a. fuer das SPEX Magazin, Intro, JNC, ...
hat sie sich als Foto- und Videokuenstlerin einen Namen gemacht.

In ihren kuenstlerischen Arbeiten beschäftigt sie sich mit dem Mensch-Sein und seinen Lebensformen. Bezugnehmend auf Architektur, Werbung, Mode und der Auseinandersetzung mit Mythologien, Soziologie, Philosophie und Psychologie entstehen inhaltlich tiefgehende Arbeiten, die mit moderner Bildsprache der Fotografie oder des Videos umgesetzt werden.

Ihre Arbeiten waren in zahlreichen Ausstellungen zu sehen. U.a. in der artothek / Köln, im Haus der Kunst / Muenchen, bei der transmediale / Berlin und im Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA DC / Washington/ Contemporary Art Ruhr, Essen Zollverein/ Wormland, art collection, deutschlandweit und während der Istanbul Biennale 2019.

Des weiteren erschien ihre Publikation „walking in between“, ein Fotoband zum Thema transgender.

Ela Mergels, born in 1969 in Germany, lives and works in Cologne. The artist and designer studied photography and film in Dortmund and Rotterdam. With regard to architecture, advertising, fashion, and the study of mythologies, sociology, philosophy and psychology, deep-rooted works are created which are implemented using a modern image language of photography or the video.

Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions. For example in the „artothek“ / Cologne, in the „Haus der Kunst“ / Munich, at the „transmediale“ / Berlin, in the Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA DC / Washington, at „Contemporary Art Ruhr“/Essen Zollverein, at „Wormland`s“ art collection/throughout Germany and during the Istanbul Biennale 2019.

Furthermore, her publication „walking in between“ appeared, a photo-book about transgender.
